Serials: how to find journals in the library

The broad rules for serials are:
  • All issues of serials that are more than 2 years old are located in the ARC.
Each year, Library Resources will move the 2 year old issues into the ARC - usually in December-January.

  • Current serials (second most recent issue to 2 years old) are located in the open collection and interfiled with the books. These will display on the catalogue as 'On Open Shelves' and have been placed in black pamphlet boxes.

  • Serials where all issues are on open shelves are shown on the catalogue as 'Main Collection'. These collections will remain on the open shelves and will not move into the ARC.

  • The most recent issue of a serial is located on the New Serials Display (next to the New Book Display opposite service zone 3 level 2). The previous issues will be moved to the black pamphlet boxes on the open shelves.
