Item Searching on Voyager

If you need to go into Voyager to do an Item Search (ie find out more about a missing book), sometimes you cannot cut-and-paste the call number over.

On the screen select Browse instead of Find, and you will be able to paste the call number and click Search.

Paying Library fines by phone or online

1. First go to the Catalogue and check MyLibrary (if the student is present) or the Voyager record if they phone in.

2. If you can see the fine on MyLibrary or the Voyager record, the student cannot pay by phone or online. They must physically go to the Cashier, Student Services, Lincoln Building: Monday to Friday 9am-5pm.

3. If the fine is not on MyLibrary or the Voyager record (you only need to check one), and if the student is a current Macquarie University student (not SIBT, CME or Associate - or staff), then this means that the fine has been transferred to the Cashier, and they can:

a) use the eStudent payment option (as per paying fees).

b) use Visa, MasterCard or American Express by phoning 1300 301 043 (for the cost of a local call within Australia). This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please have your student ID, credit card number, and a pen ready to record your receipt number and date paid.

4. Last and very important: if you or the current Macquarie University student are in any way confused or uncertain concerning what to do, what fine is due, or if the fine is correct, then it is essential to either:
a) fill out a fine query form - to have the fine investigated.
b) contact Access Services directly on x7507 (Monday to Friday 9am-5pm) - to resolve any procedural question and/or to investigate the fine.

Patrons unable to place ARC requests

Occasionally a patron may be unable to place an ARC request. In this situation, a message in red text will appear on the Catalogue screen saying 'You have no request available in this database".

This can be for a few reasons:

  • Overdue items on the patron record

  • Fines exceeding $50 on the patron record

  • Temporary block placed on patron record

If you discover one of the above reasons, please advise the patron to fix the problem (return the overdue item, pay fines so that they are below $50) which will allow them to place an ARC request.

If you cannot see any of the above reasons, please let the Service Coordinator know.

For urgent ARC requests, staff may use the Guest MyLibrary login. The login details are in the Current Password List in the Procedures manual at each service zone.

Student fines transfer completed

Students fines are transferred to Financial Services at the end of each Session if still unpaid.

Key points to remember:

Fines will no longer appear in MyLibrary or in Circulation under the Dollar Sign for Fines/Fees
The record of the transfered fines are now located in the Fines/Fee History tag on the Patron Record.

The Library now has no way of knowing whether the fines have been paid or not.
So please be very careful when discussing fines with clients. If you (or they) are unsure, please refer them to the Cashier (Lincoln Building).

Transferred fines will need to be paid before students can access their exam results, re-enrol or obtain a transcript. (Even a $1 fine can block this process). This can upset students who are unsure of what to do or why it has happened, so please be understanding.
