How to get an ISBN or ISSN number for a new publication

ISBN numbers (for books):

Send an email request to the Marketing Unit – Macquarie University
Email address: macquariemarketing@mq.edu.au
Provide the following information:
Author(s)
Title
Edition (if relevant)
University unit
Contact name and extension

The Marketing Unit will then issue an ISBN and forward the relevant documentation to the client.

ISSN numbers (for journals/serials):

The Marketing Unit does not assign ISSNs for serials that Macquarie University publishes. Instead, clients publishing a new serial format publication need to contact the Australian ISSN Agency at the National Library.

The URL for the Australian ISSN Agency at the National Library is:
http://www.nla.gov.au/services/issn.html

Their webpage gives the following details:

The Australian ISSN Agency was established in the National Library of Australia in 1973. The Agency has sole responsibility for ISSN allocation to serial titles published in Australia. Details of all serial titles registered by the Agency are sent to the International Centre and this data is published in ISSN Online and ISSN Compact (CD-ROM).

An application for an ISSN can be made using the online application form. (http://www.nla.gov.au/services/issn_form.html )
