Reserve and MultiSearch

Ian Argent has provided us with a few preliminary tips for using MultiSearch to find Reserve and eReserve items:

It is assumed that you select the 'Reserve Collection' option BEFORE you begin looking for Reserve and eReserve items. This will result in searches which retrieve ONLY those items in these 2 collections.

Searching by Unit Code
If you search by Unit Code you will retrieve a complete list of Reserve and eReserve items. The default result is by 'relevance'. I recommend that you sort this result by 'author'. (Change 'Sorted by...Relevance', to 'Sorted by...Author')

Searching by Keyword
You can search using any combination of terms from an item citation. MultiSearch uses an implicit boolean 'and' search, so just type in the title of a document to retrieve an article or chapter in eReserve, or a text or AV item in Reserve.

Retrieving 'just eReadings' or 'just books'
In order to focus on item types, first perform a search, then use the 'Refine My Results' options, found on the left of the screen. Resource Type, Author, Date and Genre are four examples of the range of limiting options available to you.

Versions
Watch out for 'version' records. 'Version' records are records where different versions of an item are bundled - 1 record 'hiding' several others until you click on the 'versions' link in the record. Try searching for 'The Hobbit' (as a 'Books, Articles and More' search). One of the records which you retrieve has 6 versions bundled into the one record. You must click on 'Versions' to open them all up.
