First Aid Incidents

If the injury is life-threatening:

1. Immediately contact the Service Coordinator so they can act.

2. The Service Coordinator will immediately page for First-Aid Officers and Library Security from the Service Zone 3 desk, or delegate a trained staff member to do so.

3. If the Service Coordinator on the scene feels the delay has been too long and First Aid help has not yet arrived, call the Security Office on x9999 to advise them of the emergency.

4. Advise the Security Office of the nature of the First Aid emergency (eg: heart attack, serious bleeding, breathing difficulty) and request urgent First Aid assistance.
If possible, delegate a staff member at the Library entrance to guide the Security Officers immediately to the emergency site.

5. Security determines if an ambulance is called. They may do so before or after they arrive to assist.

If the injury is not life-threatening:

If you need a First Aid Officer during office hours for a Library emergency/injury, please immediately advise your Service Coordinator so they can act

Procedure:

Phone for First-Aid Officers using the Phone List details
Matt Cowdert x7524
Reenah Lampert x7773

OR

Use the announcements microphone to call for a First Aid Officer (FAO) from the Service Zone 3 desk.

Example:

May I have your attention please.
Could a First Aid Officer come immediately to (give the location where the FAO is needed).
A First Aid Officer to (location)
Thank you.

Reassure the staff/victim that help is on the way.

If a Library First Aid Officer does not turn up in a reasonable time (eg within 5 minutes) page Library Security to come to the same site:

May I have your attention please.
Could a Security Officer come immediately to (give the location where they are needed).
A Security Officer to (location)
Thank you.

Remember that outside business hours page Library Security first.
