Policy for Multiple Book orders

Multiple copy requests for items should be forwarded to Learning Resources (level 5, x7551).

If a request is made at the service zones, use the cover sheets located at the Reserve inquiry desk (next to the Reserve box where reading lists and materials for Reserve are left). Make sure the name of the Unit convenor, Unit Code and expected enrolment are all filled out.

Copies are ordered on a rough guide of one copy per 50 students.
Learning Resources will negotiate with the lecturer if more than 5 copies are requested.

The Library position is that we are obliged to obtain representative copies of a text, but that is all. If a work is set as a text, students are expected to buy it. If enrolments are massive, or multiple Units are using a text, additional copies will be considered.

In the case of a Unit with an enrolment of up to 50, we would purchase 2 copies of any new titles, or order an additional where the Library already holds one.

At least one copy of any title ordered often ends up in Reserve, but this is not essential. All ordered copies might go direct to the main shelves. What is important is that the order is made, and copies are available when needed for teaching, and that they can go into Reserve, 3 Day Loan, or the open shelves as required.

When evaluating the Library holdings of a particular book, Learning Resources will ignore CME holdings, and order what is required for the MU Library.
